Medieval History: Bitter Conformity, Ritual and Discovery

medieval history bitter conformity ritual and discovery:

this was a time when society had become settled, in that housing had become secure, communities had developed and a base language had formed. however, fear of the unknown and the spread of illness meant that, although life seemed safer now, there was a need for the group to have similar manners and like ways, to conform to a common ideal.

an outsider, although welcome, was instantly recognized as such, and to the outsider it seemed as if it had happened upon a secret society, so to speak, bent on some group purpose with their own vocabulary and speech. music had a following, used in various rituals and chants.

it was a time for great thinking, many discoveries were made, natural philosophy and science were academic pursuits, and it was a time for writing and the arts.
