Matching Demand

matching demand:

the match between demand and supply happens and there is a price, without this, there is no progress. often there is a distinction between what is stated and what may only be implied. as negotiations develop, this becomes clear.

say what the demand is! be forthright. be prepared.

when demand is great, and supply is little, and negotiations fumble, the realization strikes that the price is more. supply may happen and economic attention will be diverted to this rare resource.

what the demand is may be complex or it may be simple. what is the primary interest?
a beef sandwich? or a chicken sandwich?
type of bread? cheese? toasted?

matching demand may be inexact. requirements differ. timescales matter. individual sectors of the economy may proceed in an independent fashion for years, on their own plans and their own budget.

Numerical Algorithms

numerical algorithms:

these are series of numbers which could be used in programming. each number in the series is a code for a function that needs to be defined.

for example:
1,2,2,1 or 1221

what does that mean?
it could mean start at one, increase to two, stay at two, then decrease to one? it could also mean start at position one, progress to position two, stay at two, return to one!

Geography and Navigation

geography and navigation:

roads, buildings and crossings. we look up, we see the sky and stars. we look down, we see the ground. many rely on maps to guide us. where does this road lead? who has walked here before?

where is the supermarket? where is the school? where is the library and the parks too? some maps place importance on different land marks. on some the roads are printed large, others the main attractions, some the playing fields and entertainment venues.

on the subway or underground train network:

at the cross over station....
how to get to the next line? here it gets confusing. there are signs hopefully, to guide us, otherwise we are hopelessly lost. there are straight paths but they turn right and left. you realize after several left and right turns you could be facing any direction, all sense of direction is lost. some would say keep turning right, others may say lets go back. where is the sign?

in any developed town, it is important to remember that the supermarket is where everyone has been. if X starts talking off about the school her children go to and Y says she sends her sons to another, you can conclude this is a town where there are young children and community life is centred around families. commuter towns have sprung up and distance to the railway station or bus station is the measure of any property.

Chemical Reactions

chemical reactions:

mass is a complex form of matter, small in the sense that there are many elements at the atomic and molecular level. molecules are tightly bound complexes of atoms.

light is usually the primary influence over mass, violent changes in the light give rise to electric currents so that an altered state occurs. the natural state of mass is in equilibrium. in inequilibrium, further electric currents feed into surrounding matter, which may affect light and sound.

valencies may differ, which give rise to unexpected chemical reactions, though a common valency may apply across molecules.

the image of a substance feeds into chemical reactions. there is a tangible resonance between an object and underlying electric currents between atoms and molecules.

Think Like Think 1000

think like think 1000:

there are levels of consciousness....

thinking, associative analysis, verbal reasoning, concept evaluation, variable manipulation, calculation, programming....
call it what you will, think is often crucial.

imagine if you will the ability to think about 1000 different variables or concepts or ideas....
what is the aim of thinking? how to achieve this aim, if there are 1000 different things to think about?
it is to form an acceptable arrangement of variables, a complex if you like, that is pleasing and true, or rather, what goes with what?
well, truth be told, think 1000 has a grand strategy, to change somewhat nebulous concepts to fine form, that is, not to attack the problem but to return now and again to analyze how it has developed.

levels of consciousness....
although not really thinking thinking about something many people are aware of certain facts which proves at some subconscious levels they are still thinking about them.

Core Statistics in Modern Life

core statistics in modern life:

core statistics in modern life include ratios such as supermarkets per community, restaurants, railway stations, clothes shops, televisions, computers....

indeed, key parts of the economy are food, transport, clothes, housing and communications. for example, what percentage of households in a community have one or more cars? how many telephones? how many pairs of shoes does the lady have?

not all communities are the same....
a residential area in the centre of a city is not the same as the leafy suburb in the outskirts of the city. how good is the communications network? how many outsiders pass through?

food is basic. there might be only one supermarket on or near the high street or main street. only one or two restaurants, a couple of fast food outlets.
transport is far more complex to analyze. is it the car, the bicycle, the tram or the bus or train? or even the plane or starship or boat or ship? fuel is a consideration.
housing is the industry which shows most the inequalities in society. the lord or lady of the manor versus the council house tenant or those living in the projects.

who has access to the web? how fast and reliable is the connection?

if we assume people live as couples....
for example, the two person household:
1 apartment:2 people
1 fixed line telephone:2 people
however what if they each have their own computer and line connection?
2 computers:2 people

core statistics are ever changing and explain much in society.

the leaders show the way, whether they be investment bankers, masters of the universe, politicians, the representatives of the corners of society....

Financial Economics: Expected Returns

expected returns:

any project of economic interest requires capital, the timescales for expected returns are certainly important, not only is it a matter of satisfying initial credit claims but also determining the level of interest in the project. if i and my partners have to wait 14 years for the full level of expected returns, would we still be interested? what if it were only 4?

the larger the project, the more complex it becomes, in terms of asset classes formed and used and traded. financing or capital expenditure is key from the outset, not only to set up the venture but also to maintain the corporation. where does this capital come from? the credit/capital markets or from the forming partners. capital may be very expensive.

running costs may vary and can lead any company to bankruptcy. returns in the later years must be greater than costs.

C = Costs
